Free Income Tax Preparation Offered by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program at BSC, Beginning February 6

(BLUEFIELD)—Free income tax preparation assistance for low income and elderly individuals will be offered again this year by the faculty and students in the Accounting Program at Bluefield State College.  The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, co-sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, will offer free tax preparation help, beginning on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 (4 pm-7 pm) in the W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business, Mahood Hall Room 310/Bluefield State College. 

 

            The service will be available each Wednesday evening, (except March 13) 4 pm-7 pm, through April 10, 2019.  Appointments are required.  To make an appointment, please call 304-327-4082 or 304-327-4108.

 

Items to bring:

 

  • This year’s tax package and mailing label
  • All forms, including W-2s, 1099s, related to income and deduction
  • Information concerning other income and deductions
  • Information concerning dependents and tax credits
  • A copy of your return from last year.

 

“All individuals participating in tax preparation through this program have undergone training to prepare to complete tax returns,” noted Paris Lester, BSC Visiting Assistant Professor of Accounting.  Professor Lester serves as VITA site coordinator.

 

During the 2018 tax season, Bluefield State College VITA volunteers assisted area residents in preparing more than 400 federal tax returns and more than 400 state returns.
