Phillip Imel named Dean of the W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business at BSC
With a career background in both business and education, Phillip Imel has accepted the position of Dean, W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business, at Bluefield State College. Imel, a member of the Accounting program faculty at BSC, has held several positions within higher education over the past 21 years. Prior to joining Bluefield State College, his most recent position was Instructional Mentor at Liberty University, where he directed a team of 26 faculty members at the Liberty School of Business.
Acting President Ted Lewis said, “We are excited to have Dean Imel join our academic leadership team at Bluefield State. He brings with him more than 20 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member and supervisor. Additionally, his experiences as a Fulbright Scholar provides him with a deeper understanding of business and international relations. Dean Imel has already started building partnerships with our local business community and with other colleges.”
“It is an honor for me to be chosen and to accept the deanship at the W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business at Bluefield College,” the new Dean noted. “I am proud to be a part of the College and, especially, the School of Business which carries the name of the patriarch of a very important business family in Bluefield and throughout the region. I am also proud that Bluefield State has the only accredited school of business in the area.”
Dean Imel discussed his goals for the Cole School of Business, including an increase in enrollment by strengthening the School’s connection with the community and service area. “This expanded connection involves developing partnerships with local businesses, leaders, other institutions of higher learning, and high schools,” he explained.
“We will engage in ‘hands on’ involvement with economic development activities, provide services to local start-up entrepreneurs and established small businesses, and deliver opportunities for our students to interact with local businesses by expanding our internship offerings,” he continued.
The W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business provides a rich educational experience that prepares graduates for success in business and industry, both regionally and internationally, he said. “I pledge to continue the rich tradition of academic excellence, cultivated by academics and practical application experiences, like internships, job shadowing, and seminars delivered by business leaders.”
