Bluefield State’s Brittney Deveaux Receives Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Award
(Bluefield)—The Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program has awarded Bluefield State College student Brittney Deveaux a $4,000 scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. Deveaux, an international student from Nassau, Bahamas, is a standout student-athlete at the College.
Rebekah Hatch, Career Internship Coordinator at BSC, alerted Deveaux to the Nordson scholarship program, which focuses upon (at the baccalaureate level) U.S. and international students who live or go to college near a Nordson facility and maintain a 3.0 grade point average while majoring in engineering, engineering technology, business, marketing, and related disciplines.
“I receive a tuition waiver as a student-athlete, but it covers only part of the tuition,” said Deveaux. “I was concerned throughout the summer about how I would pay the balance. When I was notified of the scholarship, it was a great relief.” The scholarship is renewable for students who meet qualifying criteria.
Nordson BUILDS Scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of an overall assessment of their academic promise, character, leadership, work ethic, community service, school involvement, and the relevance of the applicant’s academic major to career opportunities at Nordson, an American multinational corporation that designs and manufactures dispensing equipment for adhesives, sealant, and coatings.
“This scholarship can lead to an internship at Nordson and to a chance for employment after I graduate,” Deveaux continued. Scholarship recipients are invited to attend Nordson meetings at the corporation’s closest facilities. “We will have the opportunity to talk to Nordson administrators and learn from them as they learn about us. This scholarship will help finance my college education and pursue a career at Nordson.”
Deveaux expressed appreciation to Rebekah Hatch for her assistance throughout the scholarship process. “She was so encouraging and took the time to help me,” the BSC student recalled. “She was as excited as I was when we got the news that I was awarded the scholarship.”
