BSC Robotics Student and Team Advisor Assist in Judging VEX IQ Robotics Regional Competition
Bluefield State College student Evan Rees, a member of the College’s Intelligent Ground Vehicle championship robotics team, and BSC faculty member Joey Hazelwood, the robotics team’s advisor, assisted in judging the VEX IQ Robotics regional competition at Princeton Middle School.
The event attracted student teams from more than 20 area schools. The VEX IQ Challenge, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, provides elementary and middle school students with exciting robotics challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning.
“Evan and I were part of the judging category that presented an opportunity to interview and interact with the student teams,” Professor Hazelwood explained. “Many of the teachers and team leaders were interested in BSC robotics.”
“It is always nice to see our younger students involved in a robotic program that may lead to studies on a college level,” he continued. “At Bluefield State College, our robotics program encourages middle and high school students to visit the campus and learn more about the engineering technology programs at the College.”
