Bluefield State Named West Virginia’s Top LPN-to-RN Program

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Bluefield State University has been ranked the #1 LPN to RN program in West Virginia by PracticalNursing.org in its 2025 list of top programs. This recognition highlights the university’s strong commitment to providing high-quality nursing education, exceptional training and preparing students for success in their nursing careers.

PracticalNursing.org’s annual rankings evaluate programs based on a variety of student-focused factors, including curriculum quality, faculty expertise, flexibility, affordability, and preparation for licensure. Bluefield State’s Accelerated LPN to RN, A.S.N. program stood out for its rigorous academic structure and practical, real-world training that positions graduates for immediate success in the healthcare workforce.

The program is a campus-based, one-year track specifically designed for licensed practical nurses seeking to become registered nurses. It begins with a 10-week summer transition course, followed by 28 credit hours of concentrated nursing coursework. Admission requirements include an overall 2.8 GPA, completion of designated non-nursing prerequisite courses, an active LPN license, and a proficient score on the ATI TEAS Admission Test. Once enrolled, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA across their nursing courses.
