Bluefield State University Receives Reaffirmation of Institutional Accreditation
Bluefield State University has received formal notification that it has earned full reaffirmation of accreditation from the Institutional Actions Council (IAC) of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In taking this action, the IAC considered materials from the most recent evaluation findings.
HLC is a regional accrediting body of degree-granting higher education institutions in an 18-state region. Its mission is to assure the education and effectiveness of its member institutions.
“The decision of the HLC’s Institutional Actions Council is gratifying, and it affirms Bluefield State University’s emphasis upon providing the rigorous academic training that prepares our students to succeed professionally and personally,” noted BSU President Robin Capehart. “The reaffirmation reflects the commitment and dedication of our faculty and staff throughout the University.” The BSU President received formal notification of the decision from Higher Learning Commission President Barbara Gellman-Danley on June 15, 2022.
“The announcement is the culmination of a self-study and peer-review process,” Capehart added. Bluefield State University has maintained institutional accreditation on an uninterrupted basis since it was initially accredited in 1951. The recent HLC decision results in BSU receiving continued accreditation through 2031-2032, the maximum 10-year period.
