BSC Presents First Ohio Valley Educational Scholarship Awards
Bluefield State College’ Katrina Davis and Ashlie Louden are the first recipients of the Ohio Valley Educational Opportunity Scholarship program. Bluefield State Provost Dr. Ted Lewis announced the scholarship program’s creation earlier this month in Wheeling. The College will provide $250,000 to students from the Ohio Valley to attend Bluefield State.
Under current state laws and policies, BSC is not permitted to offer its nationally accredited engineering technology programs on site in the Northern Panhandle at this time, although those programs aren’t currently available at other Northern Panhandle colleges, Lewis explained. “We believe that a student’s zip code should not determine their ability to earn a college degree in all disciplines,” he added. The Ohio Valley Educational Opportunity Scholarship supports students from Wheeling and surrounding areas to pursue their educational goals at Bluefield State.
Louden, a Beallsville High School graduate, and Davis, a Bellaire High School grad, are also teammates on the BSC women’s basketball team. “We look forward to helping other Ohio Valley students to pursue their college degrees at Bluefield State,” noted Dr. Lewis.
