8th annual Agora Virtual Event
The 8th annual 2021 virtual Agora, A Celebration of Creative Expression is now available for viewing at https://bluefieldstate.edu/agora/virtual-agora-2021.
BSC Humanities Department’s 2021virtual Agora, A Celebration of Creative Expression features a variety of performances by area high school and BSC students and faculty, renowned Spanish poet Margarita Merino, and keyboardist Kyle Wolford (a BSC alumnus). Additional performances in the 2021 Agora include BSC Assistant Professor of Mathematics Vincent Mateescu reading a poem by his grandfather and performing “Fur Elise,” and Indian Flutist Raj Srinivasan, his daughter Veebhu and Brazilian Violin virtuoso Felix Karam, former Fulbright artists who visited BSC.
Said BSC Provost and VP for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Ted A. Lewis: “Agora continues to be a vibrant event. It is a magnet that attracts talented people from near and far, from the present and the past. I hope we are able to come together for an in-person Agora on April 13, 2022. Meanwhile, we can enjoy viewing and listening to the virtual Agora.”
Said Agora coordinator Dr. Jamkhandi: “BSC Webmaster Larry Zande has patiently woven together the 2021 virtual Agora, just as he did in 2020. I thank Larry for his abounding patience and skill in making available another quality virtual experience. The judges for the various creations, written and artistic—Drs. Michael Smith, Bonnie Reese, Dr. Guy Sims, Jack Sheffler, Linda Hoagland, and Debra Tabor—are owed much gratitude. For publicizing Agora over a period of several months, Karen Gordon, Jim Nelson and Kurt Landefeld must be thanked. I am indebted to all the performers who heeded my invitation to share their talents and passions and who have given of themselves so generously.”
Bluefield State College President Robin Capehart added, “Agora is an eclectic event that features local, national, and international talent. It reflects Bluefield State College’s mission and core values. I look forward to the return of a live Agora in 2022.”
