West Virginia Governor Jim Justice will deliver the commencement address at Bluefield State College’s 124th Graduation Exercises, May 2, 2021, 3 pm, at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield.  Nearly 300 degrees will be awarded during the program.

“We are thrilled and honored that Governor Justice will deliver the College’s 2021 commencement address,” observed Bluefield State President Robin Capehart.  “He has provided invaluable support and encouragement for this Institution and for the region.”

In 2019, Governor Justice pledged $1 million to make improvements in BSC facilities, including the return of the first on-campus housing in more than 50 years.  He declared February 21, 2020 as “BSC Day at the State Legislature.”  During a State Capitol ceremony on that date, he saluted Bluefield State College for its “great contributions to West Virginia and in honor of the countless alumni who have made a positive impact on the State and the world.”

Justice, a Marshall University graduate, has visited Mercer County on numerous occasions, including a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Bluefield Area Transit Transfer Station, the 2019 celebration marking the designation of Mitchell Stadium as “America’s Best High School Stadium,” and the announcement of funding to underwrite the construction of a new Grant Street Bridge in Bluefield.

At Bluefield State’s commencement program, special measures will be in place for the safety of the College’s graduates, their families and friends, and for all other attendees and participants.
