BSC Academic Administrator Dr. Jacquelyn Madry-Taylor Participates in White House Initiative to Discuss the African American Community and the Coronavirus
Bluefield State College academic administrator Dr. Jacquelyn Madry-Taylor participated in the recent White House’s Public Liaison office/Coronavirus Task Force conference call. Dr. Madry-Taylor, Interim Dean of BSC’s School of Engineering Technology and Computer Science, joined representatives from a broad spectrum of organizations including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Urban League, UNCF, the Thurgood Marshall Fund, and The Links, Inc. Dr. Madry-Taylor is National Chair of The Links, Inc. HBCU Committee.
“The primary purpose for the meeting was to mobilize the African American community at all levels to help the Administration address the disproportionately large number of deaths among the African American community as a result of the virus,” Dr. Madry-Taylor explained. “The inclusion of leaders from the UNCF and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund suggests that Historically Black Colleges and Universities could play a significant role in addressing these health disparities, which have existed for decades.”
“(Bluefield State College) President (Robin) Capehart understands that BSC can help to address these issues through its academic programs as well as its local and regional community partnerships,” she noted.
Vice President Mike Pence, US Surgeon General Jerome Adams, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, were in attendance during the conference call.
