Student Support Services provide a number of services designed to help students achieve their academic goals.
Tutoring is provided in almost every class offered at BSC. Not only can we help you if you are having problems in a class, but we can also work with you if you just need a little extra help to make that "A" or "B". Our peer tutors also serve as mentors to participants and assist them in the "ins and outs" of college life and refers students to appropriate campus resources when necessary.
We offer academic, personal, career, financial aid, and graduate school counseling. Through seminars, workshops, educational materials, and one-on-one assistance, our counselor can help you put together your educational plan and acquire the skills you need to make your stay here more successful. You can make an appointment or walk in if you are having: time management worries, test anxiety, academic distress, career uncertainty, or personal stress.
All students are strongly encouraged to meet with their assigned academic advisor to discuss their schedules, however Student Support Services staff will also be available for academic counseling.
Cultural Enrichment Trips
We take cultural enrichment trips once each semester to a variety of locations away from Bluefield so our students can experience events not available in this area. Recent trips include the Biltmore Estate, Barter Theatre, and Wohlfahrt Haus.
The computer lab is open from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. The lab is monitored by a computer-knowledgeable student at all times. It is located in the Basic Science Building in Room 101. The computer lab equipment was purchased through grant funds and therefore is restricted to SSS participants only.
We provide a wide variety of workshops to help students improve their academic, organizational, and personal skills. Topics include study skills, time management, financial literacy, math anxiety, and developing leadership skills.
