BSU Student Michael Acheampong Receives Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship

 Bluefield State University student Michael Acheampong has enjoyed a productive summer.  The BSU computer science major has received a prestigious Phi Eta Sigma Founder’s Fund Scholarship.  Phi Eta Sigma is the nation’s oldest and largest freshman honor society.  He’s also wrapping up a lengthy summer internship at Amazon’s Tech Hub in Austin, TX.  

Acheampong accepted an invitation to join the BSU chapter of Phi Eta Sigma a year ago.“At Bluefield State, the computer science major from The Republic of Ghana, is a BSU Student Government Association senator, a member of the University’s Computer Science International Students Association and the BSU Honors College.

Founder’s Scholarship applicants were evaluated on their Grade Point Average and academic excellence, involvement in Phi Eta Sigma, and participation in other service and leadership organizations.  The Scholarship Selection Committee also sought examples of each applicant’s resourcefulness, innovative initiative, and plans for continuing academic pursuits.  “The faculty and staff at Bluefield State have supported and assisted me throughout the process,” he said.
