BSC Nursing Student Emily Martin Wins Aya Healthcare Scholarship

                Bluefield State College Nursing student Emily Martin is in select company.  The second-year student at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center is one of only ten students in America to receive a 2021 Aya Healthcare Future Travel Nurse Scholarship.

                Martin, a Woodrow Wilson High School graduate, will receive a $1000 scholarship to help with costs associated with her nursing education.  She was chosen from hundreds of student applicants, who were evaluated for their academic qualifications, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and personal essays.

                She is working as a nurse extern on Critical Care Step Down at Raleigh General Hospital.  “My coworkers taught me so much about real life nursing, I am so thankful for them.”  She also credited her father, Mike Martin, for his support.

                “Our (BSC) nursing class is the most amazing group of people,” Martin continued.  “I have grown so close with my classmates–forever friends. We are counting down the days until our pinning ceremony on April 29.”

“I am extremely thankful for BSC Nursing instructor Sally Sale, my first year Nursing faculty advisor.  I am grateful for the tough love and nursing knowledge I received from her. My love for nursing has grown ten-fold because of Ms. Sale!”

 

After graduating from the program in two months, Martin has a focused plan for her “what’s next.”  “I’ll return to school to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree,” she said.  “My goal is to work at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial in Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit.” and attend Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) School.”
