The Coal Institute Presents Scholarship Award to Bluefield State College
Bluefield State College has been selected as one of eight institutions of higher education to receive a $2000 scholarship from The Coal Institute. One BSC student will be awarded the scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year. Joe Frye, Jr., Chairman of The Coal Institute’s Educational Funding Committee, recently notified the College of the donation.
The Coal Institute scholarship is designed to assist students who are studying to receive an education in various fields associated with the coal industry. Since 1994, The Coal Institute has contributed over $1,170,000 to coal education scholarships and programs.
Dr. Ted Lewis, BSC Provost, discussed the importance and timeliness of The Coal Institute’s expression of support. “We are grateful to the Coal Institute for this generous donation,” he noted. “Financial barriers often prevent many of our students from succeeding. This scholarship will lessen the financial burden on students and will help them achieve their educational goals.
