BSC Announces Academic Reorganization Initiatives

“The School of STEM groups excellent degree offerings and programs from the former School of Engineering Technology and Computer Science with outstanding science and math-based programs from the former School of Arts & Sciences,” noted BSC President Robin Capehart.

“Students will benefit from the synergies that emerge from the availability of these academic disciplines within the School of STEM,” added Dr. Ted Lewis, the College’s Provost.  “We join the ranks of institutions of higher education like Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and the United States Naval Academy—all of which now offer Schools of STEM.

“Our faculty are experts in their fields, Dr. Lewis said. “Our students will receive dynamic instruction that prepares them for fulfilling, rewarding careers in fields where opportunity abounds.”

In addition to the School of STEM, Bluefield State College also unveiled its School of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences.  This new School was created by combining the former School of Education with humanities and social science-based degree programs and specializations from the former School of Arts & Sciences.  “This School provides a strong academic base for our students and complements the educational offerings throughout each of the Schools at BSC,” Dr. Lewis explained.

These newly constituted Schools join the School of Nursing and Allied Health, along with the W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business to create four academic Schools at BSC.  Current and prospective students are encouraged to email:  bscadmit@bluefieldstate.edu and/or visit the College’s website:  www.bluefieldstate.edu to learn more.
