Higher Learning Commission Commends Bluefield State College for its Commitment to Student Success

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has recognized Bluefield State College for its commitment to student success as demonstrated by the successful completion of the Persistence and Completion Academy. Dr. Sarita A. Rhonemus, BSC Academic Affairs Administrator and HLC Liaison Officer, explained, “The “project evolved far beyond the original scope and will continue to be a critical part of the student success culture developed over the past four years.  It’s all about faculty and staff helping students make the connections for success—connecting the dots.”

Bluefield State remains committed to the project and thus the sustainability plan through the ongoing support of resources including time, human capital, budget, space, and technology, Dr. Rhonemus added.  Additional components slated for fall 2021 include proactive (intrusive) academic advising, establishing a data repository, and implementing the newly formed Honors College, all of which will further enhance the Big Blue BOOST dynamics for student success.

Bluefield State College was first granted regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission on March 31, 1951, with its next reaffirmation of accreditation comprehensive site visit scheduled for April 11-12, 2022.
