BSC Nursing and RadTech Students Participate in Simulation Laboratory Exercise

Bluefield State College Nursing and Radiologic Technology students recently took part in a simulation laboratory exercise, utilizing an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach.

“Our simulation lab illustrates to our Nursing and RadTech students the importance of collaboration, BSC Nursing faculty member Kelli Sarver explained.  “They experienced the importance of a team effort between the two studies that produces a continuity of care for patients.”

The BSC students were given a case study that involved a medical diagnosis of a hip fracture.  The exercise required bedside nursing efforts as well as the transportation and use of our radiology department.  This produced the required diagnostic studies to implement the treatment plan for the patient, according to Sarver.  Students also performed IV and nasogastric tube insertions.

“It’s an honor to work with fellow colleagues within the Bluefield State College School of Nursing & Allied Health to give our students the quality education they need to enter the healthcare workforce,” she added.
