Bluefield State College Teacher Education

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) advances excellent educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning. West Virginia has a partnership agreement that describe the goals of the partnership and the key responsibilities of signatory parties and educator preparation providers (EPPs).


 

Annual Reporting Measures

Bluefield State College has one primary program offering certification in K-6 Elementary Education per our last accreditation review.  The School of Education also offers endorsements in the 5-9 content areas of English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies as well as an endorsement in K-6 Multi-Categorical Special Education, excluding autism.

CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) has eight annual reporting measures which are used to provide information to the public on both program outcome and program impact. The following is the list of CAEP measures with links to data tables that provide supporting evidence for each measure:

MEASURES OF PROGRAM IMPACT

Measure 1: Impact that completers’ teaching has on P-12 learning and development
  • Graduate Case Study - A case study approach was used to document completers’ impact on student learning.
Measure 2: Indicators of teaching effectiveness
  • Graduate Case Study - A case study approach was used to document completers’ teaching effectiveness.
Measure 3: Results of employer surveys, and including retention and employment milestones
Measure 4: Results of completer surveys
  • Graduate Satisfaction Survey - A survey of in-service teachers one year after graduation from BSC teacher preparation program.
  • NExT Surveys - Includes data for completers’ satisfaction with their preparation once they are employed.

Measure 5: Graduation rates from preparation programs
Measure 6: Ability of completers to meet licensing (certification) and any additional state requirements
Measure 7: Ability of completers to be hired in education positions for which they are prepared
  • Employment information - Includes employment information for completers 1 and 2 years after program completion.
Measure 8: Student loan default rates and other consumer information
  • BSC default rate - University-wide rate of default on student loads for the years 2015, 2016, and 2017, based on data provided by the Office of Federal Student Aid.
  • Beginning Salaries for West Virginia and Virginia educators.
  • Tuition - Information about tuition and fees at Bluefield State College including tuition, financial aid, scholarship, and student education employment.
  • Financial Aid - Contact information for the Financial Aid Office, applying for financial aid and additional resources.
  • Tuition cost estimator - Tuition costs per year of enrollment provided by the BSC Office of Financial Aid.
