Bluefield State Welcomes First JumpStart Nursing Program Cohort
BLUEFIELD, WV – Bluefield State University (BSU) celebrated a milestone today with its inaugural JumpStart Nursing Program Signing Ceremony, marking a significant commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals in the region.
The JumpStart Program provides participants with a comprehensive approach to launching their nursing careers. Students receive guaranteed early acceptance into BSU’s prestigious AD Nursing program, ensuring their place in this competitive field. The program distinguishes itself by offering personalized one-on-one advising from experienced nursing faculty, who provide tailored guidance to help students navigate their academic and professional journey.
“High School seniors have a lot of things to consider when choosing their educational path,” said Sandra Wynn, Director of BSU’s Associate Degree Nursing Program. “The purpose of the JumpStart program is to take some of the stress off of them and make their decisions easier by offering them an early acceptance into the program, early financial aid and educational counseling, and funding to pay for their textbooks and uniforms.” Added Wynn.
Eleven students representing both local communities and distant locations like Colorado attended today’s ceremony.
Recognizing the financial challenges students often face, BSU provides up to $500 in financial assistance to help cover essential expenses such as uniforms and textbooks. This support reflects the university’s commitment to reducing barriers to education and supporting students’ professional development.
“By taking some of the burdens of preparing for college, our hope is to ease their transition into University life and to give them every opportunity to be successful in the nursing program at Bluefield State University,” said Wynn.
The annual signing ceremony will serve as a celebration of the students’ potential and achievement, bringing together participants, their families, and university leadership to mark this important milestone. The selected students will benefit from a proven program that bridges the gap between high school and higher education, providing them with a head start in their nursing education.
By offering personalized support and early integration, BSU continues to develop skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals who are prepared to meet the evolving needs of the medical community. If you are interested in applying to the nursing program at BSU, applications are open through April 18th. Contact the BSU admissions office for further information.
