Bluefield Celebrates Black History Month 2025
The Bluefield Black History Committee, in conjunction with Bluefield State University (BSU) and the City of Bluefield, is proud to announce its celebration of National Black History Month throughout February 2025.
This year’s celebration features various events, including a fashion show, film screenings, the Black History Month Legacy Luncheon, the Hamilton Hatter Scholarship Dinner, and banners recognizing individuals with significant achievements displayed throughout the city.
The month kicked off with a captivating fashion show featuring youth and adults from the community on Saturday, February 1st, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Bluefield Arts Center. The event showcased the evolution of African American culture and fashion through the years.

Tuesday, February 4th:

- Screening of the film “The Six Triple Eight” at The Historic Granada Theater (537 Commerce St).
Thursday, February 6th:
- 7:00 PM
- BSU Student Activities presents Black History Trivia Night at the Medical Education Center (450 Cherry St).
Tuesday, February 11th:
- 8:00 PM
- Screening of the movie “The Banker” at The Historic Granada Theater (537 Commerce St).
Thursday, February 13th:
- 7:00 PM
- “Cries of a Darker Man Pt. 2” by Rob Brown at the BSU Student Center (219 Rock St).
Saturday, February 15th:
- 12:00 PM
- CVB/BSU African American Cultural Heritage Tour starting at Raleigh Street Cinemas (530 Raleigh St).
Wednesday, February 19th:
- 6:00 PM
- Hamilton Hatter Scholarship Dinner at Fincastle Country Club (1000 Country Club Dr, Bluefield, VA) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Friday, February 21st:
- 12:00 noon
- The Legacy Luncheon at The Clover Club (Upstairs at The RailYard, Commerce St) from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Saturday, February 22nd:
- 12:00 noon
- CVB/BSU African American Cultural Heritage Tour starting at Raleigh Street Cinemas (530 Raleigh St) from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
February 25th – March 1st:

- CIAA Basketball Tournament (Simulcast from Baltimore, MD).
Throughout the month, street poles throughout the City of Bluefield will be adorned with banners honoring influential figures in Black history, both nationally recognized and local heroes (see list of 2025 honorees below). These banners will be displayed on various streets, including Commerce Street, Bland Street, Bluefield-Princeton Avenue, the MLK Bridge, and Pulaski Street.
