BSC Faculty Member Receives $43K Grant
(Bluefield)–Dr. Young B. Kim, Assistant Professor in Chemistry at Bluefield State College, has been selected to receive a $43,200 grant award from the Center for Natural Products Research, a research program supported by the West Virginia-Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (WV-INBRE). This grant will support his research project, “Optimization and Chemical Synthesis of Natural Products.”
His research outlines a development and optimization of natural product synthesis that has already proven to be cytotoxic toward numerous cancer cells. “This work is a continuation of the research project we started last year, and we are grateful continue support from WV-INBRE,” Dr. Kim observed. “It will help our students in many ways to see how our work in the lab translates into drug discovery in the area of cancer research.”
Additionally, INBRE undergraduate students in Dr. Kim’s research lab will gain valuable experience by presenting their findings at future research conferences, including the 2017 WV-INBRE Summer Research Symposium at Marshall University.
