A student who is considered a “high alert” student at any time throughout the semester will be assigned a Student Success Navigation Team. To be classified as a “high alert” student, the student would have previously received alerts for low grades, missing assignments, excessive absences, failing midterms, recommendation to withdraw from classes, etc. Student Success Navigation Teams will be implemented to support students and achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals. The core of each team is made up of the University’s Retention Specialist, a Faculty Advisor suggested by a Dean, an Academic Success Center Staff Member, a Student Peer Mentor, and other university staff who work directly with students in various programs (Athletic Coach, ADA/Health Center Staff, Health Sciences Liaison, etc.). Students are central to the teams’ efforts to help them get the support they need for success at Bluefield State.
