DHHR’s 2023 Internship Program is now accepting applications. Interns at DHHR acquire unique skill sets and career experience in their chosen field of study.

DHHR’s Internship Program offers a flexible schedule of 32-40 hours per week for up to 10 weeks, beginning on May 15 and ending on July 21, 2023. Interns receive a competitive wage, and those choosing to work in the Charleston, WV area may opt to take advantage of free housing and shuttle transportation. Qualified students must have successfully completed 30 hours of college credit with a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average and be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. To be considered for DHHR’s Internship Program, qualified students must submit a completed application form, unofficial college transcript, and letter of recommendation to DHHRJobs@wv.gov by Friday, March 31, 2023.

Local Summer Internship

Job Summary: The Summer Intern rotates through the Parts Warehouse and Parts Counter, Reconditioning Center, Oil Lab, and Used Parts departments observing, learning, and performing various tasks while under the direction of experienced personnel from June through early August. There are opportunities to travel to other Carter locations to gain an understanding of how a CAT dealership operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Observe, learn, and perform duties related to Parts, Service, Rental, and Service Home Office operations at Carter.
  • Gain understanding of how a CAT dealership operates, including its management viewpoints, and company policies, protocols, and practices.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and other learning opportunities.
  • Complete all assigned tasks and assist with day-to-day operations.
  • Observe and learn from experienced staff members.
  • Fulfill any requirements and meet goals set out at start of internship.
  • Prepare documents and update records.
  • Travel to locations outside the home store is expected as you near the end of the program to receive training and complete a rotation at the home office.
  • Work in coordination with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Media Relations Intern

Job Summary: The Media Relations Intern will serve as support staff for the Office of Marketing and Media Relations. As Media Relations intern for Bluefield State University, he/she will be responsible for supporting and assisting the media relations team in managing the university’s external communications and promoting its activities to the public. The duties of the intern will include helping with press releases, media monitoring, media outreach, social media management, content creation, event support, research and analysis, and administrative tasks.

Goals and Expectations: The Media Relating Intern will learn the importance of teamwork/collaboration, effective data analysis, and media strategies in a fast-paced environment. Service requests happen weekly from various departments in which they will be expected to help prioritize. The role will also be expected to learn and apply media relations language and concepts in writing and communication skills when addressing team members, other media professionals, and stakeholders.

Project Success Paid Internship Program

Bluefield State University provides an opportunity for students to participate in a paid internship program, which allows for career exploration and development and to learn new skills. This program aims to provide students with meaningful work experience and increase their job opportunities upon graduation.

Purpose

  • To create new, paid internship opportunities or to convert previously unpaid internships into paid internships for students.
  • Provide students with meaningful work experience by ensuring internships are directly related to the student’s major.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be in good standing with Bluefield State University
  • Enrolled as a continuing student in a degree-seeking program
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher
  • Enrolled in a fall term to participate in a summer internship

Requirements for participation

Project Success is a grant-funded program; each student must:

  1. visit Career Services – Conley Hall, third floor, room 316, to participate in a resume workshop
  2. complete ALL necessary paperwork
  3. weekly time and effort reports will be submitted and signed by the supervisor
  4. time sheets must be turned in on time bi-weekly
  5. three letters of recommendation from professors
  6. agree to have their picture taken one time during the internship and
  7. a written testimony (four sentences) of what was learned and how it improved their academic journey during the internship.

Pay Rate

The pay rate will be a minimum of $12.00 per hour.

Please be advised a student does not have to take classes during the summer to participate in a summer internship; however, the student must be enrolled for the fall semester classes to be considered a student – no graduates, unfortunately.

United States District Court – Connecticut

Job Description: The United States District Court for the District of Connecticut is now accepting applications for a unique one-year term as a Student Intern as part of the Model Intern Diversity Pilot Program offered through the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is interested in learning about the Federal Court system, and who is self-motivated with strong attention to detail. The Intern will provide a wide range of services and will gain exposure to the work performed by several court units, including the District Court, Bankruptcy Court, Probation Office & Pretrial Services, U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Defender’s Office. This unique one-year internship will start during the summer semester (but no sooner than June 5, 2023) and end during the spring semester of 2024 (no later than May 31, 2024).
