Bluefield State University provides an opportunity for students to participate in a paid internship program, which allows for career exploration and development and to learn new skills. This program aims to provide students with meaningful work experience and increase their job opportunities upon graduation.

Purpose

  • To create new, paid internship opportunities or to convert previously unpaid internships into paid internships for students.
  • Provide students with meaningful work experience by ensuring internships are directly related to the student’s major.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be in good standing with Bluefield State University
  • Enrolled as a continuing student in a degree-seeking program
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher
  • Enrolled in a fall term to participate in a summer internship

Requirements for participation

Project Success is a grant-funded program; each student must:

  1. visit Career Services – Conley Hall, third floor, room 316, to participate in a resume workshop
  2. complete ALL necessary paperwork
  3. weekly time and effort reports will be submitted and signed by the supervisor
  4. time sheets must be turned in on time bi-weekly
  5. three letters of recommendation from professors
  6. agree to have their picture taken one time during the internship and
  7. a written testimony (four sentences) of what was learned and how it improved their academic journey during the internship.

Pay Rate

The pay rate will be a minimum of $12.00 per hour.

Please be advised a student does not have to take classes during the summer to participate in a summer internship; however, the student must be enrolled for the fall semester classes to be considered a student – no graduates, unfortunately.
