Celebrate Your Graduation at Bluefield State University

Our annual Commencement Ceremony marks the culmination of your academic journey and honors the achievements of our graduating students. This memorable occasion brings together graduates, families, friends, and the campus community to celebrate your success.

Ceremony Details

Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Brushfork Armory – 2915 Old Bramwell Rd Bluefield, WV 24701   

Commencement Speaker

We are honored to have Mr. Marvin Woodie, Jr., President of Conn-Weld Industries, LLC, as our Commencement Speaker. His leadership and achievements are an inspiration to all, and we look forward to hearing his words of wisdom.

Venue & Parking Information

  • Guest tickets are not required.
  • Everyone must be seated by 9:45 am. Please plan to arrive early, as traffic may cause delays.
  • Please do not leave vehicles unattended after the ceremony, as the Armory gates will be locked.
  • We are guests of the Armory; please be respectful of the venue and refrain from driving on the grass.
  • If you or your guests have accessibility needs, please contact the Registrar’s Office in advance to request a special parking pass.

Prepare for Commencement

As you get ready to celebrate, use the following resources to help ensure a smooth and enjoyable day:

  • Career Services – Get support with job searches, resumes, and interview preparation as you transition into your career.
  • Lodging and Local Attractions – Find nearby hotels, dining options, and points of interest for guests attending the Ceremony.
  • Alma Mater – Take a moment to visit the Bluefield State Alma Mater and prepare to sing with pride on graduation day!

Important Information for Graduates

Rehearsal

Graduation Rehearsal is scheduled for Friday, May 16th at 10:00 am at the Brushfork Armory. If you are unable to attend rehearsal, please contact the Registrar’s Office for assistance.

Arrival Information

Gates open at 7:30 am. Graduates should plan to arrive by 8:00 am to participate in the Class and College pictures. Please be on time, as we want to capture everyone before the ceremony begins.

Attire

Candidates are required to wear their full academic regalia (cap & gown) to participate in Commencement.

Attire Recommendations: Since Commencement is a formal event, candidates are expected to dress appropriately under their regalia. We recommend wearing dress slacks and a collared shirt (no shorts, please) or an appropriate-length dress/skirt. Comfortable shoes are strongly encouraged, as graduates will be standing for extended periods. Please be aware that the stage ramps have an incline, so very high heels are not recommended.
