Home / Dual Credit and Early College

Dual credit allows high school students to earn both college and high school credit for a course, and it is currently available at select high schools throughout West Virginia.

Early College credit allows students to earn College credit but not High School Credit.

Some high schools may require minimum standardized test scores or other qualifications from students prior to enrollment in dual credit courses. To see if your high school offers dual credit, please contact your guidance counselor.

Most of the courses are taught by Bluefield State University faculty, and students receive college credit upon completing the course.

Some High schools/VOTECHs have Instructors who will teach these classes at your High School/VOTECH centers.

LevelUPWV offers tuition assistance for students who are on a Pathway and are earning college credits and high school credits at the same time. Not all counties have signed an MOU for these Pathways. Please see your Guidance Counselors for clarification on Pathway MOUs

Bluefield State University currently offers the following Pathways that lead to careers in the following  Pathway fields:

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is also offered at Bluefield State University.

Dual enrollment is when students take college classes at the university for college credit but do not earn high school credit.

Bluefield State offers reduced rates for Dual Enrollment courses.

Minimum Qualifications to Become a Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit Student

  • Be a junior or senior when completing the dual credit/enrollment course
  • Be approved by the high school counselor or principal
  • Meet the prerequisites of the course they would like to complete

How to apply

Students who are not participating in a Level Up pathway or attend a school in a county that pays for their students’ dual credit cost will be charged $75.00 per credit hour. **This amount is separate from the textbook and materials cost.**
