Bluefield City Park

Our local park’s trails, kids’ stations, and other things are maintained by local volunteers. As a volunteer, you can assist with helping to widen trails, painting lines on the road through the park, or sponsoring a kid’s station on the Family-Friendly trail to help maintain it.

Mercer County Animal Shelter

The shelter needs volunteers to help with a variety of tasks such as walking dogs, feeding animals, taking dogs out into the community so that they have a break from shelter life, and can be seen by potential adopters, cleaning out pens and litter boxes, and collecting donations.

Beckley options:

Hospice of Southern West Virginia

Their opportunities for serving would include Patient Companionship Visits and Office Support. Patient companionship is where the volunteer would sit with a patient while the primary caregiver would be able to leave to run an errand or just take a much-needed break.  This could be an hour or two at a time.  Office support would be helping with daily office duties or areas such as helping with mailings, making telephone calls, and maybe filing. They are also always open to suggestions that students would have for areas of service.
