Scholar Ambassadors: BSU Honors College Puts Student Achievement on Display

Walk through the lounge of the Basic Science Building at Bluefield State University, and you will find something worth stopping for. Lining the walls is a new Honors College Poster Exhibit, a collection of student stories told in research findings, leadership milestones, and community contributions, each one belonging to a BSU student who decided that college was going to mean more than a degree.

The exhibit, unveiled May 6, will remain on display through May 2027. But its purpose extends well beyond decoration. For Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi, who oversees the Honors College, the posters represent something the university has always known about its high-achieving students and now has a permanent place to show.

“These students represent the academic excellence, leadership, and determination that define Bluefield State University,” Jamkhandi said. “Through research, scholarship, service, and campus involvement, they are helping shape the culture of our university while serving as ambassadors for future generations of students.”

The Honors College at BSU is built around the idea that talented students grow fastest when they are challenged early and supported well. The program connects students with faculty mentors, research opportunities, internships, leadership development, and community engagement, experiences designed to stretch them beyond the classroom and prepare them for whatever comes after graduation.

The poster exhibit grew out of that same philosophy. Rather than simply cataloging accomplishments, it was designed to put student voices and student work at the center, giving visitors a direct look at what Honors College students are actually doing and why it matters.

Jamkhandi was direct in crediting the students themselves for bringing the exhibit to life.

“You make Bluefield State University shine as Scholar Ambassadors,” he said. “We hope your success stories inspire prospective students from near and far to pursue their own academic goals at Bluefield State.”

That aspirational note is intentional. The exhibit is as much for the students who haven’t arrived yet as it is for the ones already here, a visible reminder posted on the wall of a building where future Bluefield State students will one day study, that the path from first-year student to Scholar Ambassador is one that BSU is built to support.
