Bluefield State’s Gamma Beta Phi Earns National Distinction
Bluefield State University (BSU) is proud to announce that its Gamma Beta Phi chapter has once again been recognized nationally with the prestigious Distinguished Chapter Award (DCA). This marks another year of exceptional achievement for the student organization, highlighting its commitment to scholarship, character, and service.
Gamma Beta Phi is a national collegiate honor and service society that recognizes students with a 3.0 GPA or higher who have completed at least 12 college credit hours. The organization emphasizes community and educational leadership and encourages members to make a positive impact through service projects.
“Gamma Beta Phi is a national honor society that stresses scholarship, character, and above all service,” said Dr. Angela Lambert, chapter advisor. “Members conduct many drives to aid in areas of need as well as provide service within the community. As the advisor of this group, I am always impressed with the dedication of the executive team in assuring the chapter is consistently awarded this honor.”
The BSU chapter’s dedication to service is evident in their numerous initiatives, including:
- School Supply Drives: Collecting and distributing school supplies to local schools in need.
- Ronald McDonald House Support: Collecting pop tabs to support the Ronald McDonald House.
- Holiday Card Campaigns: Creating and delivering holiday cards to residents of The Havens at Princeton and veterans at the VA Hospital in Beckley.
- Donations to Local Charities: Supporting organizations such as Mary’s Cradle, Salvation Army, Kingdom First Mission, Bluefield Union Mission, Wade Center, Amy’s House of Hope, and local animal shelters.
- Campus and Community Involvement: Participating in events like the BSU Children’s Trunk or Treat and the End Alzheimer’s Walk.
- Annual Blood Drive: Sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood Drive on the BSU campus.
This repeated national recognition underscores the continual dedication and hard work of BSU’s Gamma Beta Phi members.
