From State to National Stage: BSU FBLA Makes Their Mark

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the Bluefield State University (BSU) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate Chapter returned from the National FBLA Conference with two national wins. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the chapter, which was only established in September 2023.

The National Leadership Conference, held June 23-27 in Orlando, Florida, brought together top collegiate FBLA talent from across the nation. Five members of the BSU chapter – Alex Ramsey, Jayden Hearn, Izabella McGuire, Elijah Nester, Christian Yates, and guided by their advisor Dr. Tabitha Young – rose to the challenge, each competing in two events.

Christian Yates secured a 5th place national win in Foundations of Entrepreneurship, while Alex Ramsey achieved a 7th place national win in Impromptu Speaking.

“I am incredibly proud of how far our chapter has come in such a short time,” shared Dr. Young, Visiting Professor in the Cole College of Business and BSU FBLA Chapter Advisor. “Their dedication and hard work have paid off in a huge way. These students not only represented Bluefield State University with distinction, but they also gained invaluable experience that will serve them well in their future endeavors.”

This national success follows an equally impressive performance at the West Virginia FBLA State Leadership Conference in April, where the chapter brought home seven wins and two students were elected to state-level FBLA offices.

The students themselves recognize the impact of their FBLA experience. “When I became a member of the Bluefield State FBLA chapter, I felt like I was part of a family,” said Jayden Hearn. “Competing at the state level and being recognized with my fellow Chapter members at the awards ceremony was something I will always remember.”

Echoing this sentiment, Alex Ramsey added, “The state FBLA conference provided an opportunity to network with my peers and with business owners from throughout the state. My favorite part of the experience is learning we could do the same thing at the national conference in June.”

The BSU FBLA chapter’s accomplishments highlight the power of student leadership, dedication, and the support of dedicated faculty members. Their journey serves as an inspiration to the entire BSU community and beyond, demonstrating that with hard work and collaboration, anything is possible.
