Inspiring the Next Generation of Teachers at Bluefield State University

Bluefield State University is proud to welcome Dr. Brittany Anderson, a distinguished scholar and native of Southern West Virginia, as a valuable addition to its teacher education faculty. With a profound passion for education and a wealth of experience in the field, Dr. Anderson is poised to make a transformative impact on the next generation of teachers.

As an experienced educator and instructional leader in the PreK-12 public sector, Dr. Anderson brings a unique perspective to her role at Bluefield State University. Her primary objective is to guide aspiring teachers in creating equitable and optimal classroom environments that promote learning. Recognizing the evolving landscape of education, Dr. Anderson is committed to fostering honest and open dialogues about comprehensive and effective support for all students.

Dr. Terene Stiltner, the Director of Teacher Education at Bluefield State University, expresses her enthusiasm for Dr. Anderson’s arrival, stating, “Dr. Anderson’s expertise and passion for education are invaluable assets to our program. Brittany’s educational journey began at Concord University, where she demonstrated exemplary work in various student government and university committees. Her dedication earned her the title of Concord’s STAR Student Employee of the Month. As a McNair Scholar and Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation Fellow, she consistently made the Dean’s List and was nominated for the Most Outstanding Teacher award.

Earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Concord in 2010, Dr. Anderson continued to pursue higher education, obtaining a Master’s degree from Concord in 2012, an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University in 2014, and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University in 2021.

Dr. Anderson’s teaching experience spans across special education and various grade levels. She has also served as a principal at Alderson Elementary School, Whitethorn Primary, and Bluefield Primary. Additionally, she has shared her expertise as an adjunct instructor at both Concord University and Bluefield State University.

Recognized for her commitment to professional development, Dr. Anderson has received specialized training in a wide array of topics and has presented on subjects such as fostering positive relationships, achieving a peaceful classroom, and the science of reading. She is an active member of esteemed organizations including the International Reading Association, the National Association of Elementary Principals, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Reflecting on her new role, Dr. Anderson shares, “I am genuinely thrilled to join the Bluefield State University family. With my background as an experienced educator and instructional leader, I am ready to apply my skills to mentor and inspire the next generation of teachers.”
