Dear Graduates,
As you prepare for this special milestone, please be reminded that only official stoles, sashes, and cords issued by Bluefield State University departments and organizations may be worn during the Commencement Ceremony.
Examples of approved items include:
- Academic Honors (Summa, Magna, Cum Laude) – issued by the Registrar’s Office
- Athletic Stoles – issued by the Athletics Department
- Departmental Stoles – such as those issued by the Nursing Department
- Greek Life and Student Organizations are officially recognized by BSU
Students may not wear any stoles, cords, or sashes that were self-purchased, gifted by others or outside groups, or not affiliated with an official BSU organization during the ceremony. This includes during the processional and while crossing the stage.
We truly appreciate your school spirit and creativity, and you are welcome to proudly wear those special items for personal photos after the ceremony concludes.
Thank you for helping us maintain a respectful, unified, and celebratory event for all graduates!
If you have any questions about regalia or what is approved, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
Sincerely,
Marviene Johnson, Registrar mjohnson@bluefieldstate.edu | 304-327-4062 | Conley Hall, Room 101
