Bluefield State Nursing Students Participate in Interprofessional Day at Erma Byrd Center
Associate Degree Nursing students from Bluefield State University’s Class of 2026 took part in an Interprofessional Day on Monday, April 10, at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center as part of their Nursing 233 course objectives.
The event brought together students, healthcare professionals, and regulatory experts for a full day of learning focused on professional practice, licensure, and career readiness.
Students heard from Bluefield State nursing alumnus Brandon Jones, MSN, RN, who shared insights from his professional journey and offered guidance on transitioning from student to practicing nurse.

Representatives from the West Virginia RN Board also led sessions covering key aspects of the profession, including licensing requirements, scope of practice, substance abuse awareness, and disciplinary procedures. Presenters included Dr. Sue Painter and attorney Michael Payne, general counsel for the board.
In addition to educational sessions, students had the opportunity to connect with representatives from regional clinical facilities, providing valuable networking opportunities and insight into career pathways following graduation.
“Experiences like Interprofessional Day help prepare our students for the realities of professional practice,” said Darrin Martin, President of Bluefield State University. “By connecting classroom learning with real-world expectations, we are equipping our future nurses with the knowledge, confidence, and professional relationships they need to succeed.” The Interprofessional Day experience reflects Bluefield State University’s ongoing commitment to preparing healthcare professionals who are ready to meet the needs of their communities.
