Bluefield State Holds Second Annual JumpStart Nursing Signing Ceremony
Bluefield State University welcomed the next generation of healthcare professionals during its Second Annual JumpStart Nursing Program Signing Ceremony at the BSU Medical Education Center, formally recognizing students who have committed to beginning their nursing education through the university’s Associate Degree Nursing program.
The JumpStart Program provides high school seniors with early acceptance into the competitive nursing program while connecting them with faculty mentors, academic advising, and financial support to help them begin their college careers with confidence.
“Programs like JumpStart allow us to identify talented students early and give them the support they need to succeed in one of the most important professions in our region,” said Darrin Martin, President of Bluefield State University. “By investing in these students today, we are strengthening the healthcare workforce that will serve southern West Virginia and beyond for years to come.”

Students participating in the ceremony represent communities from across the region and beyond. The signing ceremony brings together students, families, faculty, and university leadership to recognize the students’ achievements and formally welcome them into the program.
Recognizing the financial challenges students often face, BSU provides up to $1,000 in financial assistance to help cover essential expenses such as uniforms and textbooks. This support reflects the university’s commitment to reducing barriers to education and supporting students’ professional development.
Through initiatives like JumpStart, Bluefield State University continues to expand opportunities for students while helping address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
