Carolyn Kirby has worked at BSU for 23 years. Mrs. Kirby has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Gardner-Webb University and a Masters in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University.  She has a dedicated and passionate higher education career in promoting student success and retention.   In addition, Mrs. Kirby holds offices in various committees and organizations on BSU campus where she always works to assist students in reaching their academic milestones.

Scott Pitt has been with BSU for 14 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from Concord University. As an Educational Outreach Counselor, Scott is passionate about creating inclusive community and networks for the participants of ASC, where they can build and create lifelong support and resources. In addition, he leads and participates in committees on BSU campus in order to promote diversity and inclusion for all students.

Helena Taylor, Educational Outreach Counselor - Math and Science

Helena Taylor is an alum of Bluefield State University and a former tutor/mentor. She graduated BSU Cum Laude with a B.S. Early/Middle Education degree with a 5-9 Mathematics Specialization. After three years of working as a public school substitute teacher, Helena joined the BSU staff as an Educational Outreach Counselor. She works closely with the peer tutors and the rest of the ASC staff to coordinate the tutoring program. In addition, she is passionate about her involvement in student body activities and events in her role as student organization advisor. She feels honored and blessed to be able to work in the same department that was instrumental in her college success.
