Bluefield State College’s Raenel Crenshaw Receives “2019 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award”

Bluefield State College student-athlete Raenel Crenshaw was presented the “2019 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award” during the College’s recent athletics banquet. The magazine “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education” sponsors the award to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field.

Crenshaw, captain of the BSC volleyball team, has presented her biomedical research at conferences that include the 2019 WV Undergraduate Research Day at the State Capitol in Charleston, WV, and the fall semester 2018 annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Indianapolis, IN. The BSC Applied Science major/Pre-Med is a West Virginia Health Science & Technology Academy Fellow. She has been very active in numerous student organizations, including the Emerging Leaders Institute’s volunteerism initiatives.

She was nominated for the “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education” Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award” by Dr. Guy Sims, Assistant to the President/BSC Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Title III. The award was inspired by the life and legacy of the late Arthur Ashe, Jr.’s commitment to education and his love for the game of tennis.
