Bluefield State College’s 8-Week Compressed Semester Registration For Spring Now Underway

The Spring 2019 Semester 8-week compressed semester option for students will be launched on March 18 at Bluefield State College.  The compressed format is an excellent fit for current students, community college graduates, former BSC students whose degree pursuit was interrupted after they’d earned 75 or more hours credit, and Regents Bachelor of Arts students. These compressed courses allows new students to get started on their degrees now and complete their coursework quicker, according to Dr. Ted Lewis, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Thirty-four courses, many of them available online, will be taught during the Spring Compressed Semester.  Courses from each of BSC’s five Schools—Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Nursing & Allied Health, and Engineering Technology & Computer Science, will be offered.

During the Fall 2018 Semester, the W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business offered Compressed Semester courses.  The option proved to be a popular one for both current students and new students, and the compressed semester was expanded to include courses from all five Schools this semester.

“The compressed semester is an excellent fit for anyone with a busy schedule.  Students receive the same quality of instruction, cost structure, and financial aid eligibility as students enrolled in the traditional 16-week semester,” added Dr.  Lewis.  “The format helps students to remain engaged in their studies and earn college credit in half the time.”  The compressed semester format could also help BSC students who wish to pick up a course to replace one they’d dropped earlier in their college career.

Those individuals wishing to learn more about the compressed semester are encouraged to contact the Dean of the School through which their course(s) of interest are being offered:
