Bluefield State College Signs MOU with El Salvador-based Institution of Higher Education

 

Bluefield State College has entered into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ESCUELA ESPECIALIZADA EN INGENIERIA ITCA FEPADE in El Salvador.  BSC Provost Dr. Ted Lewis, Interim Dean of the BSC School of STEM Dr. Jan Czarnecki, the College’s Computer Science Chairman Dr. Bill Bennett, and Dr. Sudhakar R. Jamkhandi, Director/International Initiatives at BSC, took part in the signing ceremony, June 16.

This MOU is a result of the May 24-28, 2021 virtual fair sponsored by the US Commercial Services in which West Virginia institutions participated.

In attendance virtually at the MOU signing ceremony were Mariela Galeano, Specialist in ITCA’s International Cooperation Office, Lidia Sosa with the US Commercial Service in El Salvador, Katia Nuila, Manager of ITCA’s International Cooperation Office, and Dr. Clark Egnor, Director of International Education at the WV Higher Education Policy Commission.

Said Dr. Ted Lewis: “We are very excited about today’s signing. We hope this will lead to a continuing development and growing relationship between our colleges and between our countries, as well.”

Lidia Sosa added, “ITCA is a great institution.  We hope to do exchanges and partnerships with your institution.  Let me know how the US Commercial Services can help you in any way.”

Mariela Galeano iterated: “This Memorandum of Understanding will enable us to do some great work, including short term exchanges between our institutions.”

“Congratulations on this agreement and partnership,” added Dr. Clark Egnor.  “This marks a beginning.  I look forward to the future, and I will do all I can through my position with HEPC to support this partnership.”

Through the MOU, BSC and ITCA FEPADE will work together to promote several initiatives including student exchanges, faculty and staff exchanges, curriculum development, collaborative research in fields of interest common to both institutions, as well as initiatives to increase cultural links and mutual understanding between El Salvador and the United States of America.
