Award Winning Journalist Featured During Black History Month Program at Bluefield State College

Wil LaVeist, a well known print, radio, and tv journalist and commentator, was the featured speaker during a Black History Month program at Bluefield State College, February 13. His topic–“Who Will Plead Our Cause?”–considered the history of Black media in the United States, especially the importance of a strong Black presence. “The Black press is critically important to provide a platform for Black thought–to plead our own cause,” he told his BSC audience.

 

            He discussed opportunities that exist for Black media in an era of dramatically expanding news and commentary delivery platforms.

 

           His presentation was sponsored by the BSC Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion, Title III, and the Emerging Leaders Institute.
