Participation of Undergraduates HSTA graduates and High School HSTA Students in Biomedical Research
Through the WV-INBRE and the Health Science Technology Academy (HSTA) program, Bluefield State College has become one of the centers to train undergraduates, HSTA graduates, and high school students to participate in biomedical research. Dr. Belay’s lab has trained 7 undergraduates in biomedical research since 2007. BSC has also given opportunities for two Bluefield High School students to learn basic laboratory techniques and scientific methods under the supervision of Dr. Belay (Nov 2011 to May 2012). Those students presented their research findings to science fair judges at Bluefield High School in June 2012. Effort is being made to recruit another HSTA group from Bluefield High School during the year 2013 to 2014 academic year.
