Get Involved!

Numerous student clubs and organizations are recognized at Bluefield State and play an important role in campus life. These organizations incorporate rewarding learning experiences, leadership opportunities, provide for exciting relationships, and are a source of enjoyment for its members. Recognized student groups provide a means for individuals to become more involved with other students and the Bluefield State community. Membership in a recognized student organization is not only an outlet for students with specific interests and skills to participate in activities that interest them, but they also help to create the vibrant campus community which we all can enjoy and appreciate.

Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society

The mission of the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society is to recognize the academic excellence of students in the study of Associate Degree Nursing. The society encourages the pursuit of advance degrees in the profession of nursing as well as continuing education as a life-long professional responsibility.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Beta Omicron chapter

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of service to all mankind.

American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA) LAE Beta Sigma Chi Chapter

The Beta Sigma Chi Chapter members work to create an international network between Bluefield State students and other Criminal Justice students and professionals. The Association fosters professionalism in law enforcement personnel and agencies, and promotes professional, academic, and public awareness of criminal justice issues.

Asciepius’s Caduces Biomedical Society

The Society purpose includes facilitating medical community exposure and promoting medically oriented experiences for its members. Students interested in medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic and nursing professions who meet the societies membership standards are encouraged to explore membership opportunities.

BSU ASCE Student Chapter

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Chapter at Bluefield State promotes civil engineering by participating in regional conferences, competitions, and community service projects. Student members have opportunities to network with other students, faculty, and potential employers in the field of civil engineering.

BSU Robotics

The Bluefield State University Robotics Team is a two-time world champion of the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC). The team is completely student based as they research and fabricate advanced autonomous robotic systems and other STEM related projects. Besides competition the projects are used to educate, innovate, and inspire the local community, with STEM shows at local schools, and other public events. All students are welcome to join who have an interest in the education of robotics systems that will help shape the world of tomorrow. Meetings are held in Room 328 Dickason Hall.

Big Blue Pride is a student organization that promotes education, peer support, and awareness of diversity on campus. Students participate in social activities and service events throughout the academic year.

Chi Alpha Sigma

Purpose of the Organization:

Chi Alpha Sigma was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.

The Computer Society welcomes student members interested in building a community of like-minded individuals who share a common interest in computers.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The FCA at Bluefield State is a sports ministry that focuses on connecting students and coaches with the greater Christian faith-based community in Bluefield, West Virginia. All students are welcome to attend meetings and join our community of scholars.

FBLA Collegiate is a collegiate level division of Future Business Leaders of America that aims to develop leadership skills in college students through activities, competitive events and community service. As part of FBLA Collegiate, students can participate in conferences, explore career opportunities, and build their professional network.

The Gamma Beta Phi Society is a national honors and service society. Our watchwords are service, scholarship, and character.

ISO’s purpose is to assist all international students with their cultural transition and assimilation to the university and Bluefield community. Student members educate and promote awareness of various cultures among international and American students, and host many social and cultural activities throughout the year for the benefit of Bluefield State. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Tau chapter

The objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi are to unite college men of culture, patriotism and honor in a bond of fraternity, to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor, to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral welfare of members, to assist the aims and purpose of colleges and universities, and to inspire service in the public interest.

North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Interest Group

The purpose is to recruit like-minded men that have interest in establishing a National NIC Fraternity on the Bluefield State University campus.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Sigma chapter

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. purpose is to bring about union of college men of similar high ideals of scholarship, and manhood in order to stimulate the attainment of ideas and ambitions of its members. We also like for our men of Omega to persevere through any and which obstacle that we may face in the scholarship aspect or his life in general. Lastly, we love to give uplift to anyone who may or may not even seek to be uplifted. We love giving knowledge and or just advice to help bring unity through the world.

Phi Eta Sigma is the oldest and largest freshman honor society in America. The Bluefield State Chapter was chartered on March 19, 1990 and recognizes freshman students who have achieved a high GPA at the end of their freshman year.

Pi Gamma Mu is the oldest and preeminent honor society in the social sciences. The West Virginia Theta Chapter supports the mission to encourage and promote excellence in the social sciences and to uphold the ideals of scholarship and service.

SAR promotes the Radiologic Technology (RADT) program on campus and throughout the community. Students participate in campus events and community service while providing opportunities for professional development of the membership.

The Student Nurses’ Association provides Associate Degree nursing students an opportunity to experience campus life and to participate in activities within the community.

The Suicide Prevention and Awareness Club brings resources, training, and compassion to the everyday mental health challenges that people face and provide means of support to cope with them.

The Veterans Student Association is the campus organization devoted to serving veterans and their families. Membership is comprised of veterans, spouses, and dependents of service members. The association strives to further the social, physical, and educational well-being of the veteran community.

Campus Activities Board (CAB)

The Campus Activities Board team is comprised of fun and energetic BSU students who work together to execute a wide-variety of programs and events for all students to attend. They plan Homecoming, intramural, outdoor adventure, Student Leadership, Welcome Weeks, and wellness events.

Emerging Leaders Institute

The Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) is a non-credited program within the Division of Student Affairs that develops and recognizes leadership of African American students at Bluefield State. Those selected for membership participate in programs that develop specific leadership and mentoring skills. ELI also serves as a mechanism to increase interest in African American students and the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics).

Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassadors program is a scholarship opportunity for students who display leadership skills and pride in being Bluefield State students. These traits are gauged through an interview process and displayed by the student through high academic achievement, a commitment to serving others, and a high interest in supporting positive school spirit. As the face of Bluefield State University, the Student Ambassadors are often the first people one meets at various events and programs throughout the year. The Student Ambassadors welcome visitors to campus, assist with freshman orientation programs, give campus tours, and work to support initiatives and events within the Division of Student Affairs.

Student Athletic Advisory Committee

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serves as the primary governance arm representing student-athlete interests in Division II affairs. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within conference and at the national level.

Representatives are responsible for gathering feedback and reporting on behalf of their conference, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, the committee speaks on behalf of the entire Division II student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure.

Student Leadership Advisory Council – Beckley

Student Leadership Advisory Council is composed of Beckley Campus student leaders who serve as an advisory group to Dr. Lewis about students’ needs and how we can more effectively meet those needs. It provides an opportunity for the mutual exchange of ideas and open dialogue about common challenges and opportunities students face on the Beckley Campus.
