Carolyn Kirby, Director
Carolyn Kirby has worked at Bluefield State College for 13 years and in Student Support Services for 5 and a half years. Her background includes a BS in Psychology from Gardner-Webb University (1988) and a Master's Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University (1993). As Director, her primary responsibilities include overseeing the management of the SSS project and writing reports and grant proposals for continued grant funding. She serves on several committees on campus including chairing the First Year Experience Committee and Building Successful College Skills Committee. She is also the campus coordinator for the Emerging Scholars Program.
Lisa A. Bennett, Counselor
Lisa has served as SSS Counselor since May 2006. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and Master of Arts Degree in Counseling with a specialization in Student Personnel in Higher Education, both from Marshall University. Lisa assists participants with the application process and financial aid, facilitates workshops, and provides academic, personal, and career counseling.
H. Scott Pitt, Educational Outreach Counselor
Scott joined the Bluefield State College Student Support Services team in December 2006. Scott brings experience and enthusiasm from a variety of career areas. He has his BA from Concord University (1992). He coordinates humanities tutoring and is available for academic advising, class registration, assistance with research papers, job search and resume/cover letter help. He is an Adjunct Instructor for the Arts and Sciences Department.
Jessica Thompson, Educational Outreach Counselor
Jessica earned her BS from Bluefield State College (2004) and is currently working on her MA from Texas University. Her experience as a student at BSC has made her a valuable asset in her role within SSS. She coordinates tutoring for math and sciences. In addition to being an Adjunct Instructor in Developmental Algebra, Jessica is also available to participants for assistance in technologies and applications.
