Open House   The Erma Byrd Higher Education Center (EBHEC) will host a Collaborative Open House on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at 300 University Drive in Beaver, WV, 25813.  Colleges and Universities participating in this event include: Bluefield State College, Concord University, Marshall University and New River Community & Technical College.  Info: (304) 256-0220, Ext. 227
School of Nursing & Allied Health   The School of Nursing and Allied Health offers degrees in nursing and radiologic technology. Programs offered include: baccalaureate and associate degrees in nursing, baccalaureate in radiologic sciences, and the associate degree in radiologic technology.


 
The W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business The School of Business at Bluefield State College offers a variety of programs. Students in the four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration program must complete the requirements of two specializations chosen from: accounting, management, marketing, or computer science.


 
School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science The engineering technology programs offer associate and baccalaureate degrees in a variety of technological fields. Associate degrees may be earned in architectural, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering technology.

School of Education The School of Education offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education (K-6) or Early/Middle Education. The program prepares graduates to teach at the Elementary (K-6) grade level and/or the Middle School (5-9) grade level in one of four required areas of specialization: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, General Science, and Social Studies.

School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science Students graduating with a B.S. in Computer Science are prepared for positions as systems analysts, software designers, network professionals, and webmasters depending on the education path taken.

School of Arts & Sciences
The School of Arts and Sciences offers courses in art, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, English, French, geography, geology, history, humanities, journalism, mathematics, music, natural science, physical science, physics, political science, psychology, social science, sociology, Spanish, and speech.


Bluefield State College Bluefield State College was established as a black teachers college by an act of the West Virginia Legislature in 1895 and was integrated after 1954. By the 1960's the College had a comprehensive four-year program of teacher education, arts and sciences, and engineering technology. Gradually a variety of two-year technical programs evolved in response to local needs.

098  Pre-Technical Mathematics (4-0-4). Credit not applicable toward degrees. A study of fundamental topics from arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Designed for freshman enrolled in engineering technology programs who have insufficient mathematical background and/or ACT scores in mathematics of less than 19 or COMPASS Engineering Math score of 58 or less.

101  Technical Physics I (3-3-4). A study of mechanics and heat. Topics discussed include vectors, concurrent and nonconcurrent forces, kinematics and linear motion, work, energy, simple machines, impulse, momentum, thermal expansion, specific heat, and change of state. PR: ACT score in mathematics of 19 or above, or GNET 098 or COMPASS Engineering Math score of 59 or higher.

102  Technical Physics II (3-3-4). A study of the basic concepts of electricity and the application of these concepts to fundamental direct and alternating current circuits. The principles of electromagnetism and electrostatics are also studied and applied to problems involving the production and utilization of electric energy. PR: ACT score in mathematics of 19 or above, or GNET 098.

115  Technical Mathematics I (4-0-4). A study of fundamental algebraic concepts and operations, functions and graphs, trigonometric functions and their graphs, linear equations and determinants, factoring, fractions, vectors, and triangles. PR: ACT score in mathematics of 19 or above, or GNET 098.

116  Technical Mathematics II (4-0-4). A study of exponents and radicals, complex numbers, logarithms, systems of equations, theory of equations, inequalities, determinants, matrices, variations, progressions, properties of trigonometric functions, and inverse trigonometric functions. PR: GNET 115.

299  Problems in Engineering Technology (1-3 hours credit, may be repeated to a maximum of 3 hours credit). Independent study on a problem in a field in engineering technology under the supervision of an instructor, culminating in a written and/or oral report. PR: Consent of instructor and dean.

490  Topics in Engineering Technology (3 hours credit per semester). Advanced formal course in a field in engineering technology. Specific subject matter will be announced and indicated by subtitle in schedule and student transcript. PR: Consent of instructor.

499  Projects in Engineering Technology (1-5-3). Independent study of an individual project in a field in engineering technology under the supervision of an instructor, culminating in a written report and/or an oral defense of the project before a select faculty committee. PR: Consent of instructor and dean.
