Scholarship Recognition Dinner
The 2011 Scholarship Recognition Dinner was held on Thursday, October 20, at 6 pm at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Virginia.
A tribute to the generous donors whose gifts enable our students to pursue a college education, the annual Scholarship Recognition Dinner also provides scholarship recipients the opportunity to meet and thank the individuals who are making a difference in their lives.
Three students address the guests each year, speaking about how the scholarship support they receive has affected them. Featured speakers have included donors Dr. Don Caudill, Foundation President John Rinehart, Dean of the School of Education Tom Blevins, and alumnus Case Mitchell, a lead engineer at GE Fanuc.
The Scholarship Recognition Dinner demonstrates what philanthropy is all about – helping our fellow human beings grow and achieve more than we could alone. As Foundation President John Rinehart said, he's like the turtle on the fencepost: "Someone had to help me get there."
The keynote is always gratitude, from donors whose success was encouraged by individuals they'd never met, from students who realize a person is giving something up so they can get an education, and from the faculty and staff of Bluefield State College who remember why we do what we do, and why it is so worthwhile.
