FACULTY POSITION

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology

DEPARTMENT: School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science

POSITION SUMMARY: The successful candidate is expected to teach basic mechanical engineering related courses such as manufacturing processes, fluid power, computer aided manufacturing and other mechanical courses as needed. All Faculty positions include a minimum 12 credit teaching load (may include web based or interactive video instruction and/or courses at off-campus locations), academic advising, as well as participation in school committees and College governance

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is expected to be responsible for the administration, operation, and maintenance of mechanical engineering technology labs and perform duties such as perform laboratory experiments, extend current program laboratory endeavors where appropriate, develop new laboratory procedures that emphasize current trends in mechanical engineering, and maintain laboratory equipment as needed. This position will serve as academic advisor to student, supervise laboratory experiences, teach undergraduate courses, serve on College and School committees, and work as a team member on undergraduate program development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in mechanical engineering or some related field and have machinist experience. In addition, the candidate should have an undergraduate (B.S.) and/or graduate (M.S.) degree in a mechanical engineering related field such as mechanical engineering technology and/or mechanical engineering. Consideration will be given to candidates who possess a degree in a science field related to mechanical engineering. Candidates having a terminal M.S. degree may be considered for the position if they have the appropriate teaching, research or work experience in the fields of mechanical engineering. The position will begin in August 2014.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates who have three years of relevant work experience in a mechanical background with experience as a machinist. Previous college teaching and/or research experience is preferred.

COMPENSATION: Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Positions are dependent upon available funding.
