Classified Staff Council of Bluefield State College Minutes

Note: Because there was no quorum at the originally scheduled February meeting, the February meeting was held on March 2, 2007

Members Present: Rick Akers, Carol Baldwin, Joan Buchanan, Kim Daniels, Tracie Goss, Fred Hardee, Lisa Neel, Michele Noe, and Berreda Ratliff.

Chair, Carol Baldwin called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room in Basic Science.

I. Minutes – No minutes have been prepared for the January meeting at this time.

II. Old Business-There was no old business on the agenda.

III. New Business-

A. Presidential Quadrennial Evaluation Team meeting-Carol stated that she had received an email stating that she was on the list to represent Staff Council at the Presidential Quadrennial Evaluation on Friday, March 9 from 9:00-10:15. Because she was unaware of what this meeting entailed, she called Anita Barilla to see what it was about. She was told that Dr. Walker was going through an evaluation and that the "Team" responsible for receiving comments consisted of Norris Kantor, John Barnes, and Dr. Lester Newman. She then called Norris who told her that any or all council members could attend. Carol was asking for comments so that she could present them as a consensus for members who did not attend. After much discussion, it was decided that some of the topics she would discuss (if given the opportunity) regarding the president include: community involvement, legislative activism, participation in campus activities, hiring issues of staff, positive actions such as border county tuition, and lack of support for classified employees in advancement opportunities within the institution.

B. Items to be discussed at the next meeting include elections and Classified Employee of the Year/Classified Staff Emeritus.

IV. Reports-Due to the lack of time, no reports were given at this meeting except for the mention by Fred that ACCE is meeting Friday and that they believe the Increment Bill as well as possible raises ($600-1200) will pass and that PEIA will be raising their rates July 1.

V. Next meeting/Adjournment

The next meeting (actual March meeting) will be held on March 23, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the conference room on the ground floor of Basic Science.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned by Carol.
