Information Systems Technician

POSITION SUMMARY: The Installation System Technician performs repairs, preventative maintenance, replacements, installations and troubleshooting for Personnel Computers, software, and accessories for Bluefield State College. This position evaluates and determines departmental needs for microcomputers, develops purchase orders, trains faculty, staff, and students in various software and hardware products, and provides additional information systems support as needed. This position provides on-site support in Beckley, WV (about 60%) and Bluefield, WV (about 40%), subject to change at any time.
- Installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting for all PCs and related equipment.
- Operating System and software installation and support as needed for faculty and staff as well as for student labs. This includes ghosting and configuring network, email, and printer settings in order to allow successful connection and communication with the campus network.
- Train faculty and staff on the use of various hardware and software. Assist students as needed in the use of hardware and software available at the college.
- Evaluate equipment and software for purchase recommendation. Staying current with technology as to recommend improvement and changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field required. At least two years’ experience performing PC Software and Hardware troubleshooting and installation. Ability to perform basic computer maintenance, both hardware and software. Ability to install and configure computer hardware and software. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing technologies. Must be proficient in Windows OS including XP and Windows 7, MSOffice, and Virus Protection.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
COMPENSATION: Classified Non-Exempt Position, Paygrade 15, entry level salary $27,015.00. This position is funded through Bluefield State College’s HBCU Title III grant.
