Members Present:        Mr. Norris Kantor, Ms. Carol Baldwin, Dr. Steve Bourne, Ms. Ruth Payne Brown, Mr. Jack Caffrey, Mr. Burt Clark, Ms. Anne Crowe, Dr. Lyn Guy, Mr. Frank Wilkinson 

Members Absent:        Mr. John Barnes 

Guest Present: Ms. Kay H. Goodwin, member, Higher Education Policy Commission Ms. Allison Adler, Executive Assistant to the Chancellor for Communications, Higher Education Policy Commission

Mr. Norris Kantor, chair called a meeting of the Bluefield State College Board of Governors at 2:00 p.m., on August 1, 2002. The purpose of the meeting was to interview the two finalists – Dr. Albert Walker and Dr. Elvalee Banks for the position of president of Bluefield State College. 

A motion was made and seconded (Caffrey/Bourne) to move into Executive Session. Motion carried. 

Mr. Kantor discussed the interview process for each candidate. Interview questions were distributed. 

The two finalists for the position of president of Bluefield State College were interviewed. Upon the completion of interviews, a discussion was held regarding the two finalist. 

A motion was made and second (Clark/Bourne) to move back into regular session. Motion carried. 

At the conclusion of the executive session, the following action was taken: 

A motion was made and second (Clark/Caffrey) to offer Dr. Albert L. Walker the position of president at a salary of $125,000 per year, plus benefits. Motion carried. 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
