GCCC Offers "Human Anatomy and Physiology" Course in Spring Semester

The Greenbrier Community College Center of Bluefield State College will offer a four-hour course and lab, "Human Anatomy and Physiology," during the Spring 1998 Semester. The course and lab are offered at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. WVSOM Anatomy professor Jim Wells, Ph.D., teaches the course, which is designed to provide students from GCCC with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a subject area essential to medical education. "I'd been wanting to offer a Spring class for the community college for some time," Wells explained. "We have the facilities and materials at WVSOM, so why not take advantage of it? We have human cadaver tissue remaining from our fall lab, and we have plastinated specimens we can use." Dr. David Perkins, Director of the Greenbrier Community College Center of Bluefield State College, characterized the course and lab as excellent opportunities to gain invaluable experience that can prepare them for further medical education. "GCCC is pleased to expand the curriculum opportunities for our students, through the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine's cooperation," he noted. Registration at the GCCC of BSC will be conducted January 8-9. Classes begin January 12. The once/weekly course will be taught from 4:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m. on Mondays, with the lab to follow (7:30 p.m.-9:15 p.m.) Prospective students may contact the GCCC Student Services Office (645-3303) for additional information.
