Campus Activities
Registrar and Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management were featured in July 1997 edition of "Enrollment Management Report," detailing how both offices work together to coordinate on-site registration of high school students
Two Business Division faculty finalized plans and presentation at Academy of Management national meeting next month in Boston
Continued expansion of BSC Home Page information available on Internet
Prepared for second of two new student orientation sessions
Began distributing new BSC viewbooks
Proceeded with work on a variety of campus improvement projects, finalizing work on campus signage, including directory, and installation of elevator at administration building
Work continued on the renovation/relocation project at BSC's Greenbrier Community College Center
Distributed to more than 8000 BSC alumni and friends the Summer 1997 edition of the "Blue & Gold," a 12-page College magazine
Adjunct instructor in history will be keynote speaker at Descendants of Veterans of the Mexican War national meeting during Fall 1997 Semester.
Partnership Activities
Hosted July 29 meeting, during which administrations of BSC and Concord considered areas of collaboration to enhance service and efficiency
Participated in annual Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce "Business Expo"
BSC's Greenbrier Community College Center's Director of Student Services has been installed as President of White Sulphur Springs Rotary Club
Telecast throughout Bluefield-area cable system two Bluefield City Board of Directors' meetings and the monthly Mercer County Board of Education meeting
Produced and broadcast two 15-minute features on BSC-TV, featuring Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer and BSC student who has received national attention as a poet
Hosted third annual "Kids Kollege," a one-week summer enrichment program for students (grades 1-5)
Nursing faculty member will be a featured presenter at the fifth annual Associate Degree of Nursing Faculty Development Conference in Dayton, OH, August 7-8
BSC Center for International Understanding is directing Customized Technical Assistance Training Programs for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
BSC CIU has been awarded contract to implement the training program "Rapid Response Hungary," focused upon local economic development within Hungary. Five Hungarian officials will participate in the program, coordinated by BSC CIU, August 16-Sept. 6
CIU has submitted training program proposal entitled "NGO Resource Center: Services & Management," for 16 Russian Nongovernment Leaders (Sept. 6-27) to USAID programming agencies
CIU is establishing, in collaboration with S.C. Myers & Associates (Washington, DC) an International Trade and Investment Office (Export Assistance Services) in Saratov, Russia
"English as a Second Language Program," is in process through CIU, to begin offering noncredit courses for international students and professionals, beginning in 1998
Disseminating bids to WV businesses for contracts with international companies
CIU is continuing work two volumes of Commonwealth Novel in English
CIU Director has been invited to deliver presentation, "Regional Economic Development" at the second annual International Conference on Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia (October, 1997) and to participate in two panels at the NAFSA Regional Conference in Bethesda, MD
Completed a Microsoft Office training program for DS parts (Bluefield, WV). This program was funded through the Governor's Guaranteed Workforce Program
Continued a customized National Electric Code continuing education class for approximately 20 American Electric Power Company employees (Bluefield, WV and Beckley, WV)
