(Bluefield)—As a part of an upper division Education class at Bluefield State College, students are required to attend two "Science Friday" events at Whitethorn Primary School. The students plan and teach science lessons aligned with state standards.
"The lessons require the first grade students to be interactive in their learning," observed Terene Stiltner, Visiting Professor of Education. "The teacher education students report that they enjoy the lessons with the students and that Science Fridays give them the opportunity to be creative in their lesson planning and implementation. The lessons are successful at reinforcing content and allowing BSC Teacher Education students additional teaching time in the school setting."
